It takes a very special horse to become an RDA horse and we are very lucky to have our incredible team.
Before being accepted into the program, all horses have a trial period where the Coaches work with the horse and observe their behaviour, how they react around children and adults, being groomed and tacked. They are introduced to our games equipment and participate being lead in mock classes. Once the Coaches are happy with the horses acceptance, we introduce an able bodied rider to the horse and assess how they react to the rider and being ridden.
Once completing all stages of the assessment in the trial period and having been passed by the Coaches, the horse is then added to our team for use in our therapy programs.
Our horses mainly come to us through donation or free lease. If you have a quiet horse that is no longer used and you think it may be successful as an RDA horse, please let us know.
Without our incredible team of horses, we would not be able to provide our therapy classes.
