Horses

It takes a very special horse to become an RDA horse and we are very lucky to have our incredible team.

All horses have a trial period where the Coaches work with the horse and observe their behaviour, how they react around children and adults, and being groomed and tacked. They are introduced to our activities equipment and participate being led in mock classes, all before being officially welcomed into the program.
Without our incredible team of horses, we would not be able to provide our therapy classes.

“It is amazing what a healing effect horses can have… that might bridge the gap that a well-intended human just can’t do.”

BUCK BRANNAMAN

Jeht

Gelding, 14.2 hh

Jeht was born in 1997 and joined our team in 2012. He is our eldest horse and is kind and nurturing to all our volunteers and riders.

Hobbies: Cuddles and being the life of the party.

Kade

Bay Anglo Arab
Gelding, 15.2 hh

Hobbies: Food and picking locks.

River

Dark Brown Brumby

River was born 2002 and joined our team in 2012. He is friendly and social to both pony & human alike. Best mates with golden boy Jeht who keeps him in line.

Hobbies: Bird watching and horseplay (but only after work!)

Rolly

Bay Stock Horse
Gelding, 14.1 hh

Rolly was born in 2007 and joined our team in 2019. He loves sporting and playing with Cutie. Although he comes from West of Gulgong he absolutely hates flies!

Hobbies: Rolling after working hard and chatting to the volunteers.

Rolly is generously sponsored by Rotary Club of Ryde

Cutie

Bay “Thelwell”
Gelding, 11 hh

Cutie was born in 2007 and joined our team in 2018. What he lacks in size he makes up for in energy! Initally named after Quentin  Tarantino, but it is Fabio who he really embodies.

Hobbies: Jogging and a nice day at the “spa”.

Ollie

Bay Pony
Gelding, 14hh

Ollie was born in 1998 and joined our team in 2021. As a younger gentleman he enjoyed trail rides, jumping, mounted games, equitation & went on all sorts of adventures! As a more senior horse he is enjoying a more sheltered and sedated life amongst our Herd!

Hobbies: exploring the bush and finding new corners of our Centre to explore.

Jim

Standard Bred
Gelding,

Jim was born in 2002 and joined our team in 2021. He is a true gentle giant. Solid, reliable and so sweet. Regardless of the obstacle before him his is calm and trusts his leaders and riders to see him through, just don’t ask him to jump!

Our herd receive hard feed at least twice a day due to not being on pasture, and have regular visits form the farrier, vet & dentist (yes, horses have to brush their teeth too!). Their continued upkeep requires volunteers attend the Centre multiple times a day to receive & distribute feeds, ensure their health, well-being and ongoing training is continued.

The annual costs of each horse is roughly $5,000 – $6,000 each year. To find out more about these expenses, or to make a donation please visit our donations page.

“The essential joy of being with horses is that it brings you in contact with the rare elements of grace, beauty, spirit and freedom.”
