A bit about Jessie!
Jessie joined Ryde Centre in 2020 to fulfil community service requirements of the Duke of Ed program, however her love and passion for horses meant that it quickly became apparent to all at Ryde Centre who met her that her attendance and participation in RDA(NSW)’s mission & values went deeper than simply meeting a requirement.
Despite her young age, Jessie has quickly proved that she is not just a competent and helpful volunteer and horse woman, but a trusted, reliable and conscientious member of our team. You will often find Jessie quietly working in the background on the ‘less fun’ tasks. Whether it’s sweeping paths, cleaning tack & grooming kits, mucking out horse yards or talking to riders and families, no task is too big or too small – no horse either for that matter!
During the Sydney lockdown in 2021 Jessie really showed her true worth and character. Finding ourselves short staffed with only skeleton teams on site to look after our horses, Jessie attended every Saturday, getting there with the help of her mum & dad. Each volunteer had to shoulder more responsibility & accountability. She was always there when you needed her – able to anticipate the next activity or job, was thorough in her tasks and absorbed knowledge and experience from everyone around her.
We’ve loved getting to know Jessie and are so grateful and humbled by the gift of her time and support around her many other commitments and schooling. As we at RDA Ryde Centre became aware of how deep her community values go and how truly beautiful and kind her spirit is, it became an obvious and easy choice to nominate her for the RDA(NSW) Young Volunteer of the Year Award at the end of 2021. We are extremely proud of how much she has flourished at Ryde Centre, and how her love of horses and community values is evolving and growing in her ambitions. We are absolutely stoked that she has been recognised now by RDA(NSW)! She has become a pillar of support at Ryde Centre on Saturdays and we hope this award encourages Jessie as she continues to grow into an amazing and valued member of our community.
We thank Jessie’s parents for lending us their amazing daughter and we wish Jessie all the best in her journey through life!
